On Saturday, November 24, Capt. Scott Smiley will be speaking at Columbia Center Mall in Kennewick, Wash. and will sign copies of his book, Hope Unseen from noon to 2 p.m.

Smiley, who is an active duty officer in the army, was blinded in 2005 by a roadside bomb. His book details the journey from the hospital bed to a new life.

A Pasco High graduate from 1999, Smiley grew up in the Pasco area and met his wife while they were both students at McLoughlin Middle School.

Besides being a father to two children, Smiley has begun a position in Spokane, Wash. at Gonzaga University’s ROTC program.
